83 Women Graduate in Uganda: 7th & 8th Tailoring Cohorts | Time to Help UK

Graduation Day in Wakiso: 83 Women Complete Their Tailoring Training

Graduation caps went up in the air in Wakiso, Uganda, as 83 women celebrated finishing their course at our tailoring training hub. The ceremony brought together the hub’s 7th and 8th cohorts: 87 women started the training across the two terms, and 83 completed it. It was a proud day for the graduates and for everyone who made their training possible.

Twelve weeks of training, free of charge

Over 12 weeks, the women learned sewing, garment making and business skills through hands-on practice and classroom lessons. For many of them, a course like this would have been out of reach. Thanks to your donations, they did not have to pay for it.

At the ceremony, the graduates came up one by one to receive their certificates from the Uganda Vocational and Technical Assessment Board (UVTAB). The top students also received a sewing machine of their own to start working with.

“My kids can never go hungry”

Mabel, one of the graduates, describes her three months on the course as entertaining and educational. Most of her classmates, she says, could not have afforded to pay for this training.

“We got it for free, and I can assure you we’ve started making money already,” she says.

“When you educate a mother, you educate the nation, and I can proudly say my kids can never go hungry with the skill that I have right now.”

Thank you

This training is funded by the donations we receive at Time to Help UK. To everyone who gave: thank you. You helped these women gain a skill that can support them and their children for years to come.

Help the next group of women

The hub runs three terms a year, and each new group of women depends on support like yours. [£540 gives one woman the full 12 weeks of training.]
