FAQs

How much would this trip cost?

Volunteering with “Time to Help” in Africa primarily comprises two main expenses: flight tickets and local expenditures. Typically, flight tickets are estimated at around £600, while local costs, including accommodation, transport, and activities, are roughly £500. However, it’s important to note that these costs can vary depending on the specific country of the trip and the time of year. While these are approximate figures, the actual expenses might be lower or higher based on various factors.

I am 16. Can I volunteer?

While our volunteer trips are primarily designed for individuals aged 18 and above, we consider younger participants on a case-by-case basis. If you’re 16 and interested in joining, you need parental consent. Additionally, you would be subject to an interview to demonstrate the maturity required for this kind of adventure. It’s essential for us to ensure that all our volunteers are well-prepared and capable of handling the challenges and experiences of the trip.

I am not from the UK. Can I still volunteer?

Of course! While many of our volunteers are from the UK, we welcome participants from all around the world. You’re more than welcome to join us. Just so you know – the only requirement is to arrange a flight that aligns with our intended arrival and departure times at the destination. This ensures that all volunteers can be coordinated and supported effectively during the trip.

Q&As

This trip is a unique opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of those in need while also experiencing the beauty and culture of Africa. You will gain a sense of fulfilment from your impact and valuable personal and professional development through working with a team, problem-solving, and adapting to new environments.

The duration of the trip is flexible, but we recommend a minimum stay of 7-10 days to allow enough time for volunteering and sightseeing. However, volunteers are welcome to extend their stay if they wish.

There is no age limit for this trip, but volunteers must be at least 18 years old. However, younger volunteers may be considered on a case-by-case basis if accompanied by a responsible adult.

Our volunteers will work on various projects on the ground, including providing clean water and sanitation, renovating an orphanage, and distributing food parcels to those in need. The specific projects will depend on the needs of the local community and the skills and interests of our volunteers.

The charity trip will consist of roughly five days of volunteering on various projects, such as providing clean water and sanitation, renovating an orphanage, and distributing food parcels. There will also be at least 2 days dedicated to sightseeing, such as a safari and diving. These activities are optional and not the trip’s main focus, but they allow volunteers to experience Africa’s local culture and natural beauty.

It is recommended that volunteers receive certain vaccinations before travelling to Africa. These may include vaccinations for hepatitis A and B, typhoid fever, yellow fever, and rabies. (Most GPs in the UK only suggest getting Hep-A, Typhoid and Yellow Fever vaccines. Some GPs do it for free, whereas in some cases, you have to pay for them). It is important to consult with a healthcare professional at least 4-6 weeks before the trip to determine necessary vaccinations and to receive any required booster shots. Volunteers should also ensure that their routine vaccinations, such as measles-mumps-rubella (MMR), diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis, varicella (chickenpox), and polio, are up to date.
