What is Volunteering Abroad?

Participating in an international volunteer programme means travelling to developing countries and creating value for communities. The main ways to contribute include raising funds for projects, working directly on projects, and spending meaningful time with local people.

  • Experience the spiritual joy of helping others
  • Add new skills to your CV

Why Should You Volunteer Abroad with TTH?

With over a decade of experience in international projects and the advantage of a strong local partner network, we focus on providing solutions. What makes us different is our careful planning to understand the needs of local communities and create volunteer groups. We choose small, friendly programmes with no more than 12 people.

Thanks to our strong partnerships and connections in the countries we visit, our trips are safer and worry-free. We can easily request assistance in case of any emergency and benefit from local knowledge. The locals provide us with the best tips and insights about each country, ensuring we experience it in the most authentic way possible.

How to Travel Abroad with a Volunteer Group?

We meet all volunteers at the airport unless they are arriving from a different country. As we are based in London, we typically aim to book the same flight from a London airport for our UK volunteers whenever possible. This helps make the arrival process more seamless, including airport transfers and in-country transport, which are included in your trip fee.

We carefully choose flights that are both affordable and time-efficient. Once you have been accepted onto the trip, we keep you updated every step of the way, including guidance on how and when to book your flight.

However, we understand that our volunteers come from all over the world and may not always be on the same flight. In such cases, we will arrange a pick-up once they have landed and disembarked from their plane.

Once we arrive in the destination country, we are warmly welcomed by our local team—our trusted partners for these trips—who will take us to our accommodation using safe transportation.

How Can I Know if Time to Help is a Legitimate Company?

To ease your worries, we can provide official documentation to confirm our legitimacy. You can also check out testimonials from previous volunteers and videos from past trips to see first-hand experiences.

Do I Need a Visa, and How Do I Get It?

You will need a visa for your trip. To apply, simply submit your application a month before departure, and you will receive an approval within a week. The visa fee is £50. We also provide guidance throughout the process to make it as straightforward as possible.

What Are the Requirements to Volunteer?

To volunteer abroad, you need to be over 18 years old and committed to fundraising for the cause.

Can I Volunteer with a Friend, Partner, or Family Member?

Yes, you can. However, your friend or partner will also need to go through the interview process and commit to separate fundraising, just like you.

Can We Volunteer as a Family?

Yes, you can. Children under 18 must be accompanied at all times. For pricing details, please discuss with a staff member by using our contact information.

Can People Outside of London/UK Volunteer?

Of course! We allow online meet-ups for interviews and orientation, and we will meet you once you arrive in the destination country.

How Far in Advance Should I Apply?

We prefer you apply at least 4 months in advance to allow enough time for project planning and fundraising. However, if you’re short on time, you can still apply and take a chance. If there’s space available, we may allow you to join even if it’s less than 4 months. You’re also welcome to apply for multiple trips at the same time.

What Happens After I Apply?

After you apply, we will carefully review your application and schedule an interview at a mutually convenient time. If accepted, we will provide you with all the details about the trip, including fundraising guidelines, and offer support and guidance throughout the process to ensure you are fully prepared. Once everything is in place, it’s time to get excited for a new adventure!

Please do not worry if you think we have not seen your application. We review every submission thoroughly before interviewing. Volunteers are selected on a first-come, first-served basis, taking into account availability, suitability, and ensuring a good fit with the team. Make sure to apply quickly to secure your spot! That said, we occasionally have last-minute dropouts, so it’s always worth keeping an eye on our social media for open opportunities.

Why Do You Need to Pay to Volunteer?

Since we are a non-profit organisation, the payment helps cover essential costs such as your accommodation, in-country transportation, meals, and the coordination of the projects. It ensures that everything is organised and that you have a comfortable and meaningful experience.

How Can I Pay?

We accept payments through PayPal, bank transfer, and credit/debit cards. Choose the method that works best for you. If you have any other method of payment in mind (such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, or anything alike), do not hesitate to discuss it with one of our staff members.

Is There a Discount for Returning Volunteers or for Applying for Multiple Trips?

We don’t have a set policy for discounts, but if you’re a returning volunteer, you can skip the application and interview processes. However, fundraising is still required as usual. For anything related to fees, you can discuss it with a staff member to see if the organisation can offer any financial assistance at that time.

Do I Need a COVID-19 Vaccination or Test to Travel?

No, currently there are no COVID-19 vaccination or testing requirements for the countries we organise trips to.

Is Travel Insurance Included in the Fee?

No, travel insurance is not included in the fee. It needs to be obtained separately, and we strongly suggest that you get one.

Which Vaccinations Do I Need to Get?

The required vaccinations can vary depending on the country. Yellow Fever is often required for entry, and there are a few others that are recommended but not mandatory, such as Hepatitis A and B, Typhoid, Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Pertussis (DTP). Malaria prevention (medication may be recommended).

Do I Need to Be Able to Speak the Local Language?

No, most of these countries have English as one of their official languages. Even if we encounter a situation where English is not commonly spoken, we will have local partners to assist and help with communication.

What Happens When I Arrive at My Program Destination?

Volunteers and staff members will be welcomed by a group of local partners who will ensure safe transport to our accommodation. Once you settle in, you’ll enjoy a meal and typically have the rest of the day to rest and recharge, preparing for the exciting activities and experiences ahead.

Are the Meals and Accommodations Good?

You will be provided with details and photos of the accommodation we stay in. While they are usually not 5-star hotels, they are decent, comfortable, spacious, and safe, often with nice views. We ensure that meals are prepared with careful attention to sanitation and nutrition, providing you with enough energy to handle a full day of activities and volunteering.

Can I Go Traveling and Sightseeing Separately from the Program?

For safety reasons, we do not recommend separating from the team. However, you can choose to do extra activities as long as you inform a staff member and get approval from the local partners, as they will know if it’s safe. If there are leisure activities you prefer not to participate in, you can skip them and rest in your room or do other activities. Some volunteers choose to stay longer after the programme ends, but this is entirely your decision. Again, for safety, we do not recommend it.

Will I Get a Certificate for Volunteering?

Yes, we do provide certificates upon completion of your volunteer programme.

Why Do We Require Fundraising?

As a non-profit organisation, fundraising is vital to the success of our trips. While the participation fees cover operational expenses like volunteer coordination, accommodation, food, and logistics, the true heart of our projects – such as constructing water wells, providing sanitary supplies, building dormitories, and supporting educational initiatives – relies on the additional funds raised by our volunteers.

Fundraising is a rewarding experience not only because you feel an incredible sense of accomplishment when you reach your target, but also because you get to witness firsthand the direct impact your efforts have made.

At the end of each trip, we provide a detailed breakdown of all project costs and how the funds were spent, ensuring complete transparency and allowing you to see the difference you have helped create.
